SCORE Volunteer Mentor C. Robert Leadbetter was guest speaker of the Sanibel & Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce business luncheon Tuesday, Oct. 11 at the Captiva Island Yacht Club. Leadbetter discussed services offered by SCORE, a nonprofit dedicated to fostering vibrant small businesses through mentoring and education.

“We have more than 11,000 volunteer mentors nationwide with about 30 in the Fort Myers area,” said Leadbetter. “Our mentors share their expertise from across 62 industries and free of charge. It’s experience which small businesses don’t usually have, unlike large corporations. SCORE fills that gap.”

Leadbetter spent more than 40 years working in the human resources field with companies such as General Motors, Gulf + Western, Mazda and Brunswick. His extensive career includes both domestic and international assignments and in more than 40 industries. He retired in 2013 and settled in Fort Myers with his wife.

The October business luncheon was sponsored by Southwest Florida Distributing & Publishing, which publishes the Chamber’s annual Visitor’s Guide of which 125,000 copies are distributed annually. The next luncheon will be Nov. 8 at Shell Point Retirement Community with Innovation Nuggets as guest speaker. Registration is required and can be done at www.sanibel-captiva.org or by calling the Chamber Visitor’s Center at 239-472-1966.
